Construction, site-development, redevelopment, landscape, and athletic-field projects can encounter soil conditions that affect excavation, grading, drainage and utility work, material handling, imported fill, regulatory requirements, project schedules, and cost.
TTI Environmental supports contractors, remediation firms, site-development teams, landscape contractors, athletic-field professionals, and public-sector project teams throughout New Jersey and the Mid-Atlantic. Our Environmental Consulting Division provides practical technical support to help identify and manage soil-related environmental issues early, maintain project momentum, and document a clear path forward for active projects.
Whether the work involves a school field, municipal park, recreation complex, commercial property, redevelopment site, or other public-facing project, TTI can help teams address soil conditions, historic fill, suspected impacts, material characterization, and regulatory requirements before they become larger construction challenges.
QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE SOIL DISTURBANCE:
Before excavation, grading, or importing fill, project teams should consider the property’s prior uses, whether historic fill or known environmental concerns are present, what soil will be moved or brought onto the site, and where excavated material may go. Identifying these questions early can help determine whether evaluation, sampling, material-management planning, or regulatory coordination is needed.
SERVICES INCLUDE:
- Preliminary Assessments, Site Investigations, and soil and groundwater evaluations.
- Soil, groundwater, and waste-characterization sampling; laboratory coordination; and data evaluation.
- Soil and groundwater remediation planning, implementation support, and verification sampling.
- LSRP services, remedial investigations, NJDEP regulatory case management, reporting, and site-closure support, as applicable.
- Perimeter Air Monitoring Plans and Perimeter Air Monitoring during applicable excavation, soil handling, remediation, demolition, and construction activities.
- Brownfield remediation and redevelopment support for applicable sites.
- Environmental support for imported fill, soil stockpiles, soil reuse, off-site disposal, and material-management decisions.
WHEN TO EVALUATE SOIL CONDITIONS EARLY:
- Suspected or known contaminated soil, historic fill, petroleum impacts, former industrial use, or prior environmental concerns.
- Field construction, excavation, grading, trenching, drainage installation, utility work, demolition, soil stockpiling, or soil import/export.
- Imported fill, soil reuse, waste characterization, laboratory data interpretation, or off-site disposal decisions.
- An athletic field, school ground, park, recreation area, municipal project, playground, or other public-facing property where soil conditions require evaluation.
- Active remediation, NJDEP requirements, LSRP oversight, or a complex site history.
- Soil disturbance or remediation work near residences, schools, occupied buildings, or other potentially sensitive receptors.
